Brother PT-P950NW reviewed by Noeneel Sharma

Brother P-Touch label makers have been around for as long as I can remember. The P-Touch brand has been built on consistency, quality and practicality. We take their business grade PT-P950NW for a test drive.

Design

The Brother PT-P950NW is a mobile printer from one of the biggest printer manufacturers in the market. It measures 118mm (W) x 192mm (D) x 146mm (H) and has a weight of only 1.51kgs. Despite the weight, the label maker is still light enough to be portable. It comes with a sleek, shiny black casing with LED backlit buttons.

The only negative comment we had on the design was that it was a little outdated and boxy.

Features

One of the biggest advantages of this label printer is its flexibility. Firstly, the range of connectivity options that were available.

The PT-950NW can be connected either via LAN, USB or wireless. The label printer is also supported on multiple platforms including Windows, Mac OS, Android and iOS.

The Brother PT-P950NW is capable of printing large labels and barcodes up to 36mm. Its speed is up to 80mm per second. Although it is not the fastest mobile printer from Brother, the speed does not diminish the quality of the picture (which is at 360px). Moreover, besides name labels, you can also use it to print labels for envelopes, banners, and barcodes.

The printer includes free software, which you can use to customise the sizes of your labels. You can also take advantage of the premade templates.

Brother PT-P950NW is Energy Star certified, which means that it functions like a low power workhorse. You also save on ink costs as the labels are thermal based.

Final Thoughts

The Brother PT-P950NW is a labelling workhorse that occupies a small footprint in the office making it perfect in areas with limited space. Beyond the design and portability features, it gives provides a lot of flexibility in terms of label size and connectivity.

Priced for the business end of the market, the PT-P950NW is ideal for growing businesses.
