Sydney, Australia – 12th May 2014
Brother Australia has recently announced the launch of the 14th Brother International Quilting Contest after an outstanding result on 2013 where an Australian quilter was crowned as the overall Asia Pacific winner.
Last Year’s Winner: “Cradle of Life”
The Brother International Quilting Contest is a creative initiative from Brother Industries Japan for the Asia Pacific region designed to encourage participants to create an Eco themed quilt. The theme is inspired by Brother Earth; Brother’s commitment to build a sustainable future. The contest is open to all quilt-makers in Asia Pacific with participants required to create a 70cm x 70cm original quilt using different methods of construction such as decoration or embroidery. The competition will run for 5 months (from May 1 to September 30 2014).
Quilts will be judged based on creativity only by a nominated panel of judges. A Brother DreamWeaver VQ3000 valued at $4,499 will be awarded to the winning Australian entry. Furthermore, the top 10 quilts will join Asia Pacific entries in Tokyo and be part of the International Quilting Contest. A panel of Fashion College and Magazine Experts will judge all entries and award a collective prize pool in excess of USD3,500. Quilts may be used at Brother Events throughout 2015 and 2016.
Laura Penuela, Marketing Manager, Home Sewing Machines at Brother International Australia said: “We are extremely excited to offer an opportunity for Australian quilt-makers to exhibit at a National and International level. Our last year’s winners; Dale Robson, Julie Harding, Judy Rook and Heather Bingham, exhibited their artworks at the Tokyo Quilt Show in January earlier this year and their artworks will be travelling around Asia Pacific during the next 12 months. This is the second time that Brother Australia participates in this International Quilting Contest and we hope to receive many entries from beginners to experienced quilters. It will be great to see an Australian to be crowned as the Asia Pacific winner like our very own Dale Robson who won last year’s overall contest”.
A competition package; including application form, conditions of entry, copyright compliance and awards is now available for download on Brother Australia website www.brother.com.au/quiltingcontest.
Applications will close on September 30 with all enquiries directed to firstname.lastname@example.org
