Brother’s Golden Ring Project – Participation in the Cancer Council’s Relay For Life

Sydney, Australia - October 2013 – During the last weekend of October 2013, a team made up of 32 Brother International Australia staff and family joined another 73 teams and over 700 ‘Relayers’ at the Blacktown International Sports Park to take part in the 2013 Relay For Life

For the third year in a row, Brother International Australia team members took part in walking around the athletics track throughout the day in support on the Cancer Council.

Participation in Relay For Life means that almost every month employees of the Brother Group somewhere in the U.S., Japan, and other Asia / Oceania countries are participating in this event or other similar events. In one year, a line connecting all countries which participated in the relay would form a single beautiful ring around the globe. Thus, this activity was named the Golden Ring Project.

This year, a Brother International Australia employee, Makoto Tanaka, Product Manager (HSM and GT), opened the entertainment line up on the main stage. Accompanied only by his guitar and pure talent, Makoto performed a 30 minute set of favourite classics by Simon and Garfunkel and the Beatles.

In support of this worthy charitable cause, the Brother International Australia team raised $4,729 for the Cancer Council, and donated an MFC-9140CDN as a major prize in the main raffle to raise funds for cancer research. The $4,729 donation was a result of fund raising activities such as the Brother Fitness Incentive Scheme, and individual fundraising via sponsorship in support of team members.
